From episode – Possible educational adjustments

  • Mode of assessment presentation/submission: online, email, video, PowerPoint, digital vs paper, or audio/video record speech instead of in class
  • Teacher aide or carer assists in scribing notes
  • Teacher provides work for pre-teaching ahead of time, extra notes for sick student
  • Teacher provides graphic organiser and/or visual cues to help organise writing
  • Typing instead of handwriting (dyspraxia and other hand issues)
  • Hit or miss – dragon dictation or other dictation apps
  • Other online study tools – Twinkl, study.com, sparknotes, schmoop
  • Levelled reader books, No Fear Shakespeare
  • Student choice, topic of interest to reengage disengaged students
  • Worksheets – students select answers from word bank rather than write whole words
  • Don’t interrupt students when reading aloud and mispronouncing words, wait until finished (confidence building)
  • Extra wait time for processing – don’t expect answers straight away
  • Extensions and extra time for homework/assessments
  • ‘Brain breaks’ during a lesson when student is tired or overstimulated
  • Pre-decided system of showing teacher when a break, rest or extra help is needed without drawing attention to themselves
